Historic Stoughton’s
“Fine Artsy Fair”
June 19 & 20, 2009
Historic Stoughton welcomes art lovers of all ages on June 19 & 20 to experience its second annual “Fine Artsy Fair” – “Because Great Art Should Be Fun” !  On Friday evening, the event opens with a Gallery Walk with hosted receptions for dozens of local artists, plus openings for new galleries & shops. On Saturday there will be a range of art exhibits at the Gallery Walk locations plus Street Artists, Classes, Demonstrations, Live Music and Food up and down Main Street. And to finish it off, you can step back in to yesteryear for the first ever Silent Movie at the Opera House - featuring the original 1924, Lon Chaney version of Phantom Of The Opera. Now in its second year, the Fine Artsy Fair is a celebration of Stoughton’s cultural heritage. Its historic arts district is the backdrop for a wide variety of artists in almost every medium. Highway 51 and downtown Stoughton is open for business, although there is currently limited construction on a small section of the road.

This event is produced by the City Of Stoughton’s Preserve America Committee as a part of the strategic vision of Stoughton’s Economic Development Committee. Proceeds, after expenses from this event, will go to Stoughton’s Preserve America Fund.

Silent Movie at the Opera House: Phantom Of The Opera

This year, Historic Stoughton’s renovated 107 year old Opera House will feature the original, completely restored 1924 version of Phantom Of The Opera starring Lon Chaney. The show will begin with a 1932 newsreel of Lindbergh Crossing The Atlantic and cartoon shown on a 1925 16mm movie projector.

There is limited seating and tickets are available for $5.00 each at Diakonos Designs, McGlynn Pharmacy, Midnight Moon/Robert Rae Gallery of Fine Art, Stoughton Opera House, and Woodland Studios.

All ticket holders get a chance to WIN a one-of-a-kind black & white print from the original film!

Gallery Walk
Dozens of artists will be featured at the “Gallery Walk – Opening Receptions”, hosted by 17 galleries and studios, all within walking distance of one another in Stoughton’s historic downtown business district. Stroll from reception to reception, up and down Main Street, and stop for music, refreshments, and great art that spans every art medium. Meet the artists and hear about what inspires their work. Classes and Demos
New this year, the “Fine Artsy Fair” will feature over 20 classes and demos that offer something for everyone. Kids and adults alike will enjoy being creative with clay at Peeling Ceiling where you can make your own 3-D tile art, paint it, fire it, and make a family heirloom. You can make your own fine art jewelry with ceramic clay beads, memory wire or hammered silver. Or, you can learn about Digital Photograph and/or Digital Painting so you can ‘turn your photos into fine art’ and print out large images on fine art papers or canvas. Pre-registration is necessary for some classes and small fees apply. Free-of-charge demos include Scone Making, Photoshop, Cheese Carving, Linocutting, and more. For a complete list of classes and demos, click here.

Food, Artists, and Musicians all up and down Main Street!
On Saturday, as you stroll from gallery to gallery, you’ll be treated to a variety of food and entertainment on Main Street. Some of the food vendors include Cheesers who will be serving fried cheese curds and lefse wrap with lingonberry. Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant will serve steak tacos, and the Yahara River Grocery Coop will feature organic hamburgers and portabello mushroom sandwiches. While you are enjoying these and other good things to eat, a variety of artists will sell their creations, and acoustic musicians featuring a wonderful mix of local and regional acts including the Sharp & Hawkins Band, Blue Collar Joes, Brett Peterson, and Badfish Creek will perform along Main Street. Expect an eclectic variety of musical styles such as acoustic folk, blues, and rock. Activities for children include tile painting and other art demos and classes, a magician, a balloon artist, and other fun things to do and see. Stoughton Historical Museum and Ozee Cars Shuttle!
Take a tour at the Stoughton Historical Museum on Saturday from 1 to 4PM.  The museum is located at 324 S. Page St., and you can enjoy a free Electric Car shuttle to and from the museum.  Ozee Cars will also provide free shuttle service up and down Main Street during the Fine Artsy Fair.
