Historic Stoughton’s
“Fine Artsy Fair”
June 19 & 20, 2009 recap

Historic Stoughton’s ‘Fine Artsy Fair’ was a fun art experience like none other. It was a celebration of art from fine paintings to performances and fine food. A Gallery Walk among Stoughton’s 17+ studios and galleries, a MusicFest along Main Street featuring live bands all day long, the 1924 silent movie "Phantom of the Opera" onstage at the historic Stoughton Opera House, art classes and demos throughout the day, plus Street Art Events pleased young and old.

Silent Movie at the Opera House – Phantom Of The Opera
In 2009, Historic Stoughton’s renovated 107 year old Opera House featured the original, completely restored 1924 version of Phantom Of The Opera starring Lon Chaney. The show began with a 1932 newsreel of Lindbergh Crossing The Atlantic and cartoon shown on a 1925 16mm movie projector.

Gallery Walk
Dozens of artists were featured at the “Gallery Walk”, hosted by 17 galleries and studios, all within walking distance of one another in Stoughton’s historic downtown business district. Art lovers strolled from reception to reception, up and down Main Street, and stopped for music, refreshments, and great art that spans every art medium.  For a detailed list of participating galleries and artists, click here.

Classes and Demos
New in 2009, the “Fine Artsy Fair” featured over 20 classes and demos that offered something for everyone. Kids and adults alike enjoyed being creative with clay at Peeling Ceiling or make their own fine art jewelry with ceramic clay beads, memory wire or hammered silver, or they could learn about Digital Photograph and/or Digital Painting. There were also free-of-charge demos that included Scone Making, Photoshop, Cheese Carving, Linocutting, and more.

Food, Artists, and Musicians all up and down Main Street!
At the 2009 Fine Artsy Fair, patrons were also treated to a variety of food and entertainment on Main Street. Some of the food vendors included Cheesers who served fried cheese curds and lefse wrap with lingonberry. Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant served steak tacos, and the Yahara River Grocery Coop featured brats. A variety of artists sold their creations, and acoustic musicians featuring a wonderful mix of local and regional acts including the Sharp & Hawkins Band, Blue Collar Joes, Brett Peterson, and Badfish Creek performed along Main Street.

Stoughton Historical Museum and Ozee Cars Shuttle!
Tours were offered at the Stoughton Historical Museum on Saturday from 1 to 4PM, and one could enjoy a free Electric Car shuttle to and from the museum.  Ozee Cars also provided free shuttle service up and down Main Street during the Fine Artsy Fair.
